Female Veterans Suicide Rate Studied

Female Suicide Rate

A new study has found that the suicide rate among young female U.S. military veterans is nearly three times higher than among civilian women. The study is the first general population study of suicide risk among U.S. female veterans and is published in the December issue of Psychiatric Services. A summary of the study is available on the Psychiatric Services website. The study concluded that the high rate of suicide among women veterans alerts clinicians and caregivers to be aware of warning signs and helpful prevention resources such as the Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.
